The Good-The Bad-And the Ugly

Let's start with the good shall we? Lizzie Kate Halloween Rules is still as fun as ever to stitch on. I am thinking I will be ready to order the next three charts by July. My two favorite parts so far are the sunflower with the crow, and the little masked dog at the top. I feel so much more motivated to stitch when I can see finished bits and how cute they are. Next we will go with the bad. I have been doing a bunch of stitching on a new exchange that I really really like, and of course can't show any pictures of. Last exchange I forgot to take a photo before I mailed it out and was soooo mad at myself. And of course I remembered right as I was strolling out the post office doors too. Also this exchange is due to be mailed out right when we are on our summer vacation, so I HAVE to get it done a little bit early.
And I will end with the ugly. Or how about the just plain ridiculous. This is one of my CJC stitches, Mirabilia's "Petal Fairy". Can you see where it went wrong? Apparently I can't be trusted to pick out my own fabric, and I can't be bothered to use one of those nifty stitch calculators that are out there all over the net! I do clearly remember way back in January when I started this measuring it with a ruler and saying "hmmm I think it will fit". Well, yes it would have fit if it was 32 ct linen and if I had noticed that the measurements were just for the stitched area without any extra for things like framing. Luckily in the 5 months since January I have only really put 2 days of work into this before I noticed it wouldn't fit. And also I found the right fabric last night at Hobby Lobby (who knew they carried Wichelt..and why didn't you tell me?) and I like the new color a little better than the bright blue I was inspired to use before. So life and stitching goes on. I already started stitching her again last night, and this time I made SURE I had the right size linen. Lesson learned.

Halloween Rules looks great. I hate trying to work out fabric at the best of times. It was an easy mistake to make x

Lovely progress on Halloween Rules.
I don't like having to work out fabric sizes either and I've been caught out. It's one of those things that you have to double check. Hope all goes well with that project this time.

Halloween looks good! Sorry about the Mirabilia. I just encountered that same "short of fabric" realization on a different project. Live & learn I guess : )

Halloween Rules looks great!! And don't worry, I can assure you you are not the only stitcher to make the measuring mistake, I know I have!! Frustrating, but we live and learn!

Lizzie Kates Halloween piece is so adorable! Stitching her designs is always a treat, isn't it. Sorry about the fabric calculation. I always use the calculator Mouse suggested as it is the only way to be sure I get it right. Good thing though you didn't do a big part of the design. happy stitching week

Whoops...I've certainly done that a time or two myself. I kind of like the blue fabric. It makes a nice background for that piece. ~Roberta

Halloween Rules is coming along great. I love it. At least you realized your fabric error before you got too far.

Aahhh, how frustrating! I too made this mistake. Luckily, the finished piece fit onto the fabric, but only just! If I'd been having it professionally framed I'm sure they'd have refused to do it.
Halloween Rules Looks great. I must stitch this myself one day.

AAAAHHHHH!!! That is SO frustrating! But, as you said, at least you figured it out now, rather than down the road when there was too much to rip out!

Nice progress on Halloween Rules. Sorry about the Mirabilia.
It happened to me also to buy a fabric and then realize that it would have fit the design if it was a 32ct but I got a 28ct. Luckly I realized it before starting stitching.

Your Holloween Rules is coming along beautifully.
I think that all us stitchers at one point or another have made the same mistake of starting a project on the wrong size fabric. We learn by our mistakes, right. I know it will turn out beautful when you are done.
Happy Stitching

The LK is certainly cute!

Sorry to hear about your fabric mishap! Been there done that, I don't trust msyelf anymore... as they say, "there's an app for that" so I have a stitch calculator on my iPhone, I'm now never without!
